Seems like maybe you missed some significant aspects of this and I'm glad to share because I am on tiktok and familiar with the dynamic.
Pro-Palestine supporters have been boycotting Starbucks super effectively. The Starbucks/Stanley colab was the apex of the Stanley hype. It was a cash grab and it was embarrassing to watch to watch how effective it was. I will absolutely criticize anyone who is willing to remain engaged with these corporations and rampant consumerism while these companies rob us blind, fund genocide, lobby our rights away, and continue their criminal employment practices. Those identifying as women are always overly-criticized but are not exempt from criticism from their own communities. It's some white woman bullshit, and I say that as a white woman.
The genocide still being executed in Gaza has been a global paradigm shift that is and will continue to impact society at large. This is a larger conversation than 'our society hates women's (it does) and solidarity is all we have left. Get hip.
Totally understand, am familiar with, and support the pro-Palestine sentiment and share the cringe that comes from anything associated with Starbucks and its support of Gazan genocide. I too am pro-Palestine. There is no doubt that this is at play. However, I am referring to the way the media portrays this trend rather than the responses on TikTok (which I can't speak to, since I'm not on it), which unfortunately does not take the affiliation with the genocide into consideration, although you're right - it absolutely should.
I don’t want to take away from your column or the greater points you are making, but I can’t help but be a bit vain ... the title... it got me. Well done 👏👏👏👏
Thank you for sharing that episode and for your kind words, Sarah!
